Soulhike

Landmannalaugar
and Eldgjá
This hike is an in-depth exploration of the southern Icelandic highlands from the rainbow mountains of Landmannalaugar to the quiet and remote trails at Sveinstindur and Strútur. The Icelandic highlands are one of the last true wildernesses in Europe. It is a rare luxury to experience the silence that can be found here. In the highlands, you will encounter a cleansing rawness and a wild beauty that goes beyond words. It must be experienced.
The hiking route crosses the world's largest volcanic crater, Eldgjá, located in Iceland's most active volcanic area. Over six days of hiking, we will experience a wide range of natural landscapes. We will traverse the historic eruption area of Laki, the most catastrophic volcanic eruption in Iceland's recent history, to the breathtaking lakes of Alftavötn, the Törfajökull glacier, and the distinctive mountains of Strútur and Mælifell.
On day one we will meet at Reykjavík's bus terminal and travel by trekking bus through South Iceland to Landmannalaugar. Landmannalaugar is a vibrant hub for hikers from around the world, gathering to begin their adventures on the Laugavegur hiking trail. After exploring this spectacular area, we will drive further into the highlands to Sveinstindur, from where we will continue our hike the following day.
On day 2 we will summit Sveinstindur and hike to the Skalingur cabin. On day 3 we will hike to the otherworldly Alftavötn lakes and spend the night here in a mountain hut. On day 4, we will head toward Strútskali and enjoy a bath in the natural geothermal spring Strutlaug along the way. We will stay in Strútskali on the fifth day, giving us the opportunity to climb Strútur or explore the vibrant rhyolitic volcanic area at Törfajökull. On the sixth day, we will cross the desert-like moraine landscapes of Mælifellssandur along Myrdalsjökull to Hvangill, where our bus will pick us up and take us back to Reykjavík.
We prepare for the changeable Icelandic weather, which can be both magical and harsh. Storms, strong winds, cold temperatures, and dense fog are conditions we must be prepared for, making proper packing and preparation for this trip particularly important. Accompanying you are two mentally and physically strong Soulhike guides, who will frame the trip and take care of guiding, safety, logistics, and cooking.
Time of Legends is a soul journey through geological time, where the creation story of the Earth unfolds before our eyes. There is no better way to experience the wonders of Iceland than this.

Soulhike Laugavegur differs from other guided hikes by a more conscious approach to hiking as a personal process. We hike with presence, both towards the surroundings, our bodies, and each other. You must therefore be prepared to be able to hike in silence for periods of time and respect the framework for this when required. The silence will deepen your experience, while you still share your experiences with others.
