Q&A
What is Soulhike
Practical
Safety
Soulhike offers guided, mindful hikes in Nordic nature for individuals, groups and companies. Along the way, space is created for silence, immersion, and personal reflection—while participants also have the opportunity to share thoughts and insights with one another in a safe and supportive community.
Soulhike offers trips in Iceland and in southern Sweden. Soulhike’s vision is to be able to offer hikes throughout the entire Nordic and subarctic region. The areas for the hikes are selected both based on accessibility and on the opportunity to go completely off-grid and leave civilization behind for a while.
Yes, Soulhike offers several different concepts. 3-day all-inclusive hiking trips with backpacking: These hikes are for nature enthusiasts with little experience in outdoor life and backpack hiking. On these trips, Soulhike provides everything—guiding, gear, and food. Participants are introduced to outdoor life and can prepare for longer journeys deeper into the wilderness. 6-day hut-to-hut hikes: Here you go deeper into the wilderness. The focus is on experiencing and connecting with the wild. The routes are more physically demanding, but you only carry a day pack while your luggage is transported from hut to hut. Accommodation takes place in mountain huts, and the guides prepare simple but good meals. Both concepts can facilitate creative and immersive processes such as team building, nature meditation, and creative writing.
Yes, Soulhike considers hiking to be a spiritual practice. Soulhike is grounded in a pan-existentialist philosophy that emphasizes peaceful coexistence with others across differences and even across species boundaries. However, Soulhike has no intention of converting you to any religion or specific spiritual practice.
Soulhike describes its hiking concept as mindful because the concept of mindfulness most closely reflects the kind of awareness that Soulhike seeks to cultivate during the silent periods of the hike. It is the ability to be fully present in the moment. The silent periods on Soulhike’s hikes are an invitation to practice your ability to be present. When we cultivate presence—for example through a regular meditation practice—we can develop a deeper awareness that extends into all areas of our lives. The hike offers an opportunity to strengthen the quality of attention you wish to bring to your life, wherever you are and wherever your path may lead
Soulhike’s core value is connectedness. How, if we have turned away from nature and lost our connection to it, can we find solutions to the ecological crisis? There is a global call to redirect attention toward nature and the ecosystems we are part of. We need a deeper connection with nature.Soulhike believes that we must spend more time in nature to restore our connection to it. This is not something that can be learned from a classroom. In nature, we connect with a way of life in which we are in deeper relation with our surroundings and other species. We need renewed strength and inspiration to address the challenges we face in the 21st century, both on a personal and collective level. Each of us has a unique contribution to the future we have the opportunity to create. And this contribution cannot be made from a place of fear. We believe we must act from a place of love for the Earth and all its species, rather than from fear of apocalypse.Soulhike’s hikes are therefore about opening the individual to a greater love for the Earth—and thus also for ourselves.
